  1. Mmm, I clicked on the link, but it took me to a Zac Brown Band music video.(?)I'll answer the blog the best I can.
Politicians are out to please the people and serve their interests and views and to get reelected for doing so. They want to listen to everyone's general ideas and specific interests, this is where interest groups come in. These groups emphasize special, specific interests and through organization and funding, they have their voices heard. These groups can fund and promote a politician that supports them. But there are those cases where the interest groups don't necessarily serve the interests of a good portion of the population, but rather they serve and are funded by corporations.
Interest groups fund those candidates that serve them, and the wealthier the group is, the more influence they are capable of.

    1. I have to disagree with you on the point were politicians are out to please the people. Because with President Bush many citizens more than half of them didn't believe we had any business in Iraq. Same goes for Obama on this healthcare bill and on his drone policies.

      Delete
    2. Well, you kind of have to side with Bush. In hindsight, had we not gone to war after the tragedy of 9/11, a gazillion people would be on his ass about not fighting back, and finding and punishing those responsible.
As for the drone policies, I'm not too informed or decided on that.

      Delete
    3. How could you side with Bush on 9/11 when it was clearly an inside job, and a excuse to go to war with Iraq. Many people knew this at the time some are barely finding out. We didn't go to war because of "terrorism" if anything we are the terrorist. I mean come one isn't it kind of weird that when ever a country doesn't side with us we call them terrorist.

  2. Well, I obviously made a mistake....LOL...

And I do love the Zach Brown Band

  3. Yes I totally agree with the video I've been emphasizing this since the beginning of the year. The big corporations behind the interest groups are the ones who are taking over. They first buy their way into office and use puppets to push laws into their advantage.

  4. On Election day or any other time. Many interest groups goes out to help the candidates or senators to be re-elected only on their term. They also finds way to manipulate the people on congress. The President even have a harder time sin e the interest groups are in his back pocket. The people no longer can have the voice of the vote ever since 2010. Since the Feds v citizen case happen. And now corporations are now being label as people with a voice to vote instead of hard working individuals who only want to see the change in america. I think the interest groups are taking a bigger step than we are expecting.

    1. I agree with you many interest groups bribe congress so they can get what they want. The president really is being taken advantage off but he doesn't really care because he is getting money and that's all that really matters.

  5. I agree with this video. The special interest groups help "fund" candidates so they can get their way. It was like that Frontline special we saw in class how else would the insurance companies and pharmaceuticals allow the healthcare bill to pass. They want to see a few million Benjamins go their way. Today's politics has drifted from satisfying the people to getting the dollar.

    1. Now after having seen the real video :p, I agree with you Jairo. Interest groups begin to own candidates and nurture them and teach the candidates to serve them. We, the citizens, can catch these interest groups and teach ourselves not to pay too much attention to their commercials or ads or anything. But the majority of us don't do our research and get our facts straight. Instead, we let these commercials and stories decide for us, which is completely counterproductive. Even I don't do my research, sadly.

  6. I definetly agree with this video. As the facts show, in the past election, interest groups werent really involved in the election other than donating a couple million here or there. But in the previous elcetion, numbers show that special interest groups spent 15.2 million dollars promting these "candidates" which was a 1620 percent increase than in the past 2008 elcetion. This is where the term, "money talks" really kicks in because these special interest groups have money they can "buy" these candidates and have them right in their back pockets.

    1. I agree, it seems that money has more of a political voice than the people. It seems that people who don't have money have nothing more than a whisper compared to the millionaire whom donated millions to their candidate.

  7. I, for one, totally agree with the video one-hundred percent! As we saw there was a huge drop in funding from candidates to buy ads and a significant increase in spending from special interest groups. Big corporations flood elections with huge sums of money to see their candidate win. Democracy in America has turned from "the who has the most votes wine" to "the who has the special interest groups with the deepest pocket wins." candidates no longer stand for ideology and the voice of the people, but instead follow the money trail into special interests groups pockets.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I agree with you except for the part about the interest groups with the deepest pockets. It isn't really about how much money the candidate gets but rather which interest groups plan to support them. Whichever groups go after whichever candidate, that candidate has to support the groups funding them.

    2. I completely agree with Lee-o-nail!! Politics are completely about who had the most votes now. The interest groups tend to go for the candidate who they can control or convince easier.

  8. I completely agree with the video. Now, all politics are about is the money and selfishness of interest groups. Like it was explained in class, the candidates have no option to avoid all interest groups and either way, they get something out of deal too. What would they care for what they promote? They're already set for life. The interests groups could care less too, they know they're set for life and just want to push for what they want or need.

  9. I agree with the video it got the point straight across in the end. The graphs wore there PACS are the main ones funding "advertisement" and not the presidents. To them it's just "chump change". Interest groups are taking over the electoral system especially with all this lobbying that goes around. They bribe the president with money because they know that it will give the interest groups what they want to see. In the long run the interest groups are in charge and the president is just being their secretary by doing what these interest groups ask for. Money is the secret ingredient in politics.

  10. I too agree with the video that big corporations are out to do whatever they can to get their man or women in office. Even if that means paying the high dollar to do it. Of course nowadays with the media in full effect people look at who the candidate is backed up by and how much advertise the candidate is getting, people buy into that and see it as the right person. Like they say "money talks".

    ReplyDelete

    1. i agree with you. Money talks, Because it the only access the government can take and be interested instead of people's actual votes. Corporations can do any thing they want in the government. And can buy out any senators as they chose. Once they are set for a plan, They are ready to take action with money, power, and their own group of people to vote them in.

  11. Interest groups have taken over citizens minds. They contain the adequate knowledge and skills to easily influence people to support them. Of course people get brainwash just because they discover similarities in between them. People fall in their tramps of false statements or promises. I agree with the fact of the video that interest groups also influence the supreme court financially. U.S is not in the best shape and they are making the situation worse. Thanks to the video I realize that candidates lack advertising since interest group are really doing the job for them.

      Delete
    3. I agree with that. Interet groups are really doing the job for the candidates. The candidates just propose an idea and the interest groups but the votes of the people for the idea. The candidate doesn't even use their own funds, the "donations" make everything happen.

  12. It is an odd thing to say we spend millions and millions of dollars to elect a leader just so he can spend millions and millions of dollars to fix the real problems. But at least then we didn't have gatherings of millionaires that wasted a chunk of their fortunes just to keep making money. no matter how i see it, it's a contradicting situation. But obviously it is legal and really, it not only wastes money that could be used to benefit the nation, but it twists the way we all see the candidate and turned elections in to a "who has the most money contest" unless one has a defining trait over the other.

  13. Yes I completely agree with the video. interest groups are the ones that are making rules in government. They have the connections more importantly the money. With the money they're able to manipulate who they want whenever they want. The fact of the matter is, is that interest groups are powerful, they have the ability to lobby and more importantly when dealing with elections push a candidateit all the way up.

  14. I agree with the video, interests groups and super PAC's are the real ones running for election, using the "Running" candidate as a puppet to carry out the wishes of the interest groups and super PAC's. A nation made for the people is now a nation for those PACs and interests groups, and because of that the the people now don't have a the ability to make their own decision, it is made for us by those interests groups and PACs.

    1. I agree with you.In politics, money talks loud and clear. Money is what politics is really about. And as long as the super PACs and interest groups keep funding candidates they will always have control over what is happening in the government. They're running the government not the people.

  16. Based on what i have learned in class and after watching the video, i agree that interest groups are taking over our electoral system. In the end is them who benefit not the people. They use their money to buy their way in. They use the candidates as a disguise, so that people get sucked into believing that good things will happen if they elect that particular candidate into office. In reality, like the man in the video said, it is the super PACs and interest groups that win. They always get what they want and they don't care about the amount of money they use. As long as they keep on winning, they will keep doing what they do and continue to get away with it because they can do that. They have become really powerful and there is not much that can be done to stop them.

    1. In a way I can agree with your post but, there can be a way to stop them. If the nation becomes more aware of what's going on, then maybe we can change the rights all this interest groups have. It will not be easy at first but it can be done.

  17. Along with my other classmates, I also agree with this video. The special interest groups assist candidates or future office holders by funding them so they can get their way in politics. America is continually disappointing the people and because major corporations are doing this, it shifts the attention from what the people want to how much can interest groups profit from others through their selected politician.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree with this video because of all the things we've gone over in class and this video. Candidates rely more on super PAC's, that's were they have been getting most if not all their money from. Corporations are giving money to whatever candidate they want to, they give them money as long as they get what they want and they're getting it. They don't care about the other people they want what's best for them and unfortunately they have the money.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It's all a money thing and attaining as much power as possible. Today and for many years politicians' main goal has been to keep their position secured and they use money to do so. It's pretty upsetting to realize it, but yes interest groups are taking over. They have what runs the government and a lot of it: "donations and contributions." Its not a system of regulating and assuring the well-being of the citizens of the nation anymore, its more of who can bribe them with the most figures if they want to see something get done. That's not the way our government should be run, but it is and will continue to be until we stop being so ignorant and stop it ourselves.

    3. I agree that candidates are easily bribed into supporting causes because of interest groups donations. Politicians have to think about the interest groups who support them before they can make a decision or they run the risk of not having the support to be reelected.

    4. Nobody wants to disagree, so i'll just agree with Leslie. Now, the most important thing in politics is money. If a person has money, their promotions and advertisements will get out there, and they might win whatever they're attempting to achieve.

  20. When we look at interest groups we can easily see the influence they have on canidates. To get a policy passed a little money doesn't hurt the bills, in saying that it's obvious that are politicians will accept funds for a simple policy because at the end of the day it's a win win situation. The publics outlook isn't what matters in this situation it's the interest group and the candidate at hand that is important.

    ReplyDelete
  21. sadly but true, the interest groups are taking over. candidates can say that they are running to do the right thing but in the other end of the strings that are attached to them is the soft money the interest groups contribute thus only running to protect the views of these interest groups. in a way we as the people screwed up by allowing the citizens united case to be lost allowed corporations to have an advantege over the people so the entire "government of the people, by the people, for the people" like President Lincon said went down the drain.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Just by seeing the video, interest groups are indeed taking over the electoral system. The man showed statistics of how much funding big corporations have made to Romney last year which shows how much power they have. These corporations have donated too money to Romney, it was unbelievable. Ever since the case of Citizens United back in 2010, the nation's citizens are losing their voice in politics. Without money, people can not really vote for their candidates since all of the interest groups or PACs are buying off the votes. This nation needs to wake up from whatever is on and needs to challenge the case again because if this keeps going on, we might have a tyranny instead of a democracy in the mere future.

Just like the picture (which btw made me laugh) made total sense on what's going on today and how people are viewing things. Intrest groups are bribing people. They see people, they see money. The president has no control, he's more like they lay back guy here. I've always thought that about presidents. They just "Chill" and pick yes or no when a problem is happening. 25. I agree with the video because its true what he says "interest groups are promoting the candidate that they OWN". Money runs the world because money talks whether its big money or not. Government has gotten so used to bribing that it's become part of their daily lives and even part of their job. They have gotten so used to just paying people into doing their dirty work and taking the credit.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I agree with the video because candidates are heavily influenced by the interest groups that support their campaign. Interest groups can bribe and persuade candidates to vote one way or the other because of the financial support they give. Although interest groups do try to promote their cause, through direct lobbying and the ability to give an unregulated amount of contributions, they control the polls because their money decides what causes candidates will support.

    1. I agree with steff, and these interest groups use more than money to try and persuade a candidate to vote one way or another. Ultimately, it contributes to intimidation of the candidate. Whether its through threatening their reelection or future political career to monetary incentives, the interest groups are so powerful, and they have the resources to make things happen.

  27. I agree with the video and I do believe that interest groups are taking over the electoral college. The candidates, now, seem to be just figure heads to all these interest groups. These interest groups can cleverly find a way to suck up to these candidates, pay them, and even talk them into considering their ideas and interests. With the money that the candidates receive, they'll more likely consider it and support the interests of those groups.

  29. I do agree with the video. The fact that the statistics for the advertisement spending decreased and intrest group AD spending increased says it all. The video gets its point across very clearly by showing the statistics and allows the viewer to look at a modern political race. Interest groups should be feared since they are the ones who will eventually run the country with the president just being the middle man.

  30. I agree with the video because the interest groups have become extremely popular in American politics. The campaigns aren't about what the candidate wants to do to help the people anymore; it's about what the interest group with the big bag of money wants him to do for them. Interest groups manipulate candidates into pushing the issues that THEY need resolved, not the peoples. What interest groups do is fund a candidate, push them into office, then use them to do their dirty work. That's what politics has become.

  31. I agree with this video completely. The people's candidates aren't trying to win people's vote anymore, special interest groups are. The interest group with more money gets to decide what's done in the country. They give money to the candidate that's going to be on their side and resolve their issues instead of the candidate that is better for the country. To me it seems that the nation has become mainly about money. The president doesn't have much say anymore, they just receive orders from interest groups. Like the video says, interest groups are the ones running for presidency now.

  32. I totally agree with this video. As I watch the video I saw how interest groups are actually running the country instead of the president. Big corporations are using their money to promote the candidates that will share the same interest as them.

  33. Based on the video and what we've learned, I agree that super PACs and interest groups run the campaigns and run the candidates. Politicians, on their own, don't earn a high salary, its through contributions that they make their money. I'm still unsure as to whether or not interet groups seek the politicians out to promote their ideals or if politicians with similar ideology as these groups kind of come together because of the similarity. Either way, interest groups have the money to get things done and politicians are desperate to do what they have to do to get paid.

  39. This Video makes total sense as to who is really running for president. I agree that special interest groups are the ones coming up with the money to promote their ideas. The candidates are only the figure heads; people to be told that if they speak about reforms and passing laws that would benefit that certain interest group, they would spend money to get him or her elected and pay them for it. So, i do agree that when people vote, they are not truly voting for a candidate, but in fact, voting for an interest group based on what that interest group wants to do on certain ideas.

  41. I surely do agree with the video. Reason being is because it is clearly proven that interest groups make a difference in the outcome of an election. The more money a special interest group provides, then the better the chance the candidate has of winning. Interest groups aren't out there for the better of the people, but instead for the better of themselves. If they want their issues resolved then they will contribute more of their money. Like the video said, the real winner is the interest group.

  42. I personally agree with the video. I do believe that interest groups are becoming the next big thing in America. Interest groups are the ones bringing in the money and representation of candidates needed now as it seems in this video. Of course im not the biggest fan of politics but it does open peoples eyes if we really pay careful attention to what really is going on around specially during election time. As interest groups get bigger and bigger around its like if there is less needed from the candidates to represent themselves. The interest groups are the ones doing majority of the work. Maybe eventually interst groups will run majority of things but it doesn't mean candidates will no longer fight to represent themselves. Everything would still depend on any candidates meaning they will have to speak for them selves to get the attention they want and need. As it is said around, sometimes it could be better to do things on your own than letting someone else do the work for you.

  44. yes super pacs and intrest gruops are taking over .they are filling the media with commercials for the canidates that they want to win for one reason or an other and then they influence the citizens who don't research their facts and only in political information from the television.

    1. I agree with Ivan. Interest groups and super pacs are donating millions to political parties and in return they get what they want. The people only vote on what they see most and not necessarily whats best

  45. I strongly, strongly, STRONGLY, agree with this video. Interest groups are the ones funneling all the money to these campaigns. I believe that every candidate that ever runs now, and in the near future is going to either be legally "bought" or influenced by these Super PAC's and corporations.

  46. I agree with the video because the people running get the money from interest groups. The PACS are the ones with the money most of the time and the candidates are just the face. Media has helped all this because the commercials airing shows the "good" side of the candidate running, which makes the people vote for the one that is closer to their views.

  47. I agree interest groups have had control of the electoral system in the recent years due to the power that they posses to push their candidates on the people.

    1. I agree with Omar they do have way to much power in the elctoral voting system to push all the cash they have to help their candidates.

  48. I agree interest groups and super pacs have taken complete control over elections due to United Citizens v. FEC. With the FEC being in charge of the 527 which unregulated special interest groups and by funding candidates and not being penalized, votes and important issues are being bought and legislation and the government that the founding fathers that was supposed to be for the people not the rich corporations.

    1. I completely agree with you Rogelio interest groups have too much power over the elections and are abusing this power to promote their ideals.

  49. While I agree that the Special Interest Groups are becoming more active in politics, one must also remember that this is how interests are put forth in Washington. Let's be real, money talks and campaigns have to be financed one way or another. We don't live in a perfect democracy where people are the rulers. Want things to change? Stop complaining and do something about it.

    1. I agree with Genesis that if people want things to change then peoploe should do something about it. I feel as if the the video just keeps repeating itself and stating all the negative truths.

  50. I surely agree with this video, it is the most obvious thing we have in our country. Our candidates no longer do things on their own for their beliefs, or for the benefits of “the people” on which democracy was founded upon. It seems like this country no longer has a true democracy. Our electoral system is completely influenced by interest groups looking for their way to get their benefits and not everyone’s. The presidential candidates are just the speakers for these interest groups. They are a way to get interest group’s ideas out to the people and to make us believe that good things are possible, that we Will benefit with elections. But in reality, when we vote for a candidate, we are voting for the interest groups behind the mask of the candidates.

  51. I also agree with this video because it shows our true colors of our "democracy". I feel as if interest groups and candidates are way to focused on advertising and there is all this spending on promoting candidates instead of having actual good use to it. More people need to know that its the special interest groups behind all these candidates making decisions that are not helpful. But its also goes to show how little the people contribute to changing it.

  52. I agree with the video because advertisement and money for candidates is rising significantly due to the fact that the regulations to spending limits was ruled out by the decision in the supreme court in the citizens united v. the FEC case. Money is not a freedom of speech or expression money is what it is MONEY! Money can’t talk can’t act or decide anything (well in this case it does have power in decision) but the first amendment is, “Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression”

  53. I agree with the video because special interest groups are promoting the president that benefits them. The more money a certain political party gets, the more they put themselves out on the media. Interest groups are giving way too much power and no regulation by the government.

  54. I agree with the video that interest groups are taking over our electoral system. Voters are now choosing between special interest groups instead of candidates. This is what Citizens United has done to our democracy, to our elections. We no longer have candidates running for office in the united states instead we have interest groups promoting the candidates they own running for office. Interest groups all have the power to buy our elections now thanks to the Supreme Court.

  55. I also agree with the video, because interest groups are taking the government into their ow n hands literally and now the candidates that we hear or see are being sponsored by Interest group and it lets our democracy to crumple more and more again until there are no more individual candidates and we lose the small control of the government left to them and that must not happen.

  56. I agree with Michael V. because we have little control of the government as years progress and now interest groups are stepping in and they are draining the remaining democracy from us. To me they are like factions and we don't want more of those and especially people who have control over candidates who could and have already rule over us.
P.S...To me its still 11:25Pm Daylight savings caught me off gaurd....

  57. I agree completly with the video. It is no longer canidates that we should be focused on in elections it is the interest groups supporting or that "own" these canidates. The canidates no longer are looking out for the peoples best interest but for the interest groups that support them in their campaigns. They are focusing more on campaigns to influence peoples voting rather than the people effected by all the laws, "the people".
