Blog for 4/1---4/7

In your opinion, is America ready for the 1st woman President of the U.S?  Why or why not?  You will need to give factual historical evidence as well (no sexism). In this exercise, you will need to learn to "agree" to "disagree." Do we as a country elect a female just to "elect a female" or are we actually ready for this?

  1. I believe the United States is ready for a first female president. There are women all over the world that have made a difference in their community, city, even their country. First Lady Hilary Clinton helped president Bill Clinton in a majority of his legislation during his two terms and was the main reason why the economy was great in the 1990's. Ronald Reagan's wife supported him throughout his presidency before passing away. Elanor Roosevelt actually passed all the legislation and went all over the world while Franklin was stuck at the White House with his polio. We as a country are ready to elect a female president.

    1. I agree with Andres on the amazing jobs all of these females did in supporting their husbands while they were in office. But i also respectfully disagree with the assumption that this country is ready for the first female president. Those women did a great job at helping run the country , but that's different from actually being in-charge of running the country.

    3. I agree with Andres. The first ladies did help out the country and the world. Example of: Hilary Clinton helped Bill Clinton with the health care laws during his presidency. But we may not be ready for a female leader. There are 14 women in the world that have become prime minsters in the following countries:
Germany,Liberia,Argentina,Bangladesh,Iceland,Croatia,CostaRica,Trinidad&Tobago,Australia,Slovakia,Brazil,Mali,Thailand, and Denmark. Out of the 208 nations that are recognize by the UN. But, Some are not world power.

    4. I agree both of you guys. In previous years, women have proven that they are more than qualified for the position. America fails to recognize that some of the first ladies helped run and shape the country when their husbands were unable to. They should at least be considered as a possible candidate for the presidency.

    5. I agree with Andres that the United States is ready to have a female president. In some presidencies woman have been the one in charge of making decisions and have proven themselves to be more than capable of becoming president.

    6. I agree with Andres anyone should be able to become president if they are qualified. Women have played a big role in uplifting and bringing prosperity to this country. Women should be able to challenge a "male" dominated position and just because they are women does not mean that they are not capable of being president.

    7. I agree with Andres women have fought for many things that were not given to them such as citizenship and the ability to vote. Women have changed society greatly throughout the years and have created impacts in the nation like the first ladies have done by supporting there husbands which are the president. A women deserves to be president but I don't think America is ready for a women president.

  2. I belive America is well prepared for its first woman president, because women have the potential to run this nation. Women have shown their potential to govern this nation, they fought continously for women's rights and they ended up getting those rights, they took on the jobs and reponsibilities that American men had left behind in the U.S in order to fight the second world war in Europe, and more... Even now women are having a great impact in the U.S., and therefore, should be given the chance to become the next presidential candidate to become president of the U.S., after all we are all equal, and if a man can become a president, why not a woman too?

    1. You are right we, women, are fighters and would do anything to be treated fairly. However, that does not mean we can govern a nation. I disagree with you. Anyone can become a presidentm but I do not think women are taken seriously yet. Like I said other countries will try to take advantage of the fact that it is a female.

  3. I believe that the United States is NOT ready for the first female president. Yes there have been very inspirational women in our past and will be more in our future. There are also women excelling in every field around the world, BUT that doesn't mean we are ready for the first female president. President Obama was the first president NOT Caucasian in our history and people had an uproar at that. I think having a female president so close to electing our first non-Caucasian president would be pushing it. People are STILL talking about the Monica Lewinsky fiasco as if it just occurred! If this women, who had no significance to our history except having an affair with a president in office, is still remembered for this one bad thing how can we expect a woman president to be in office. Her every move would be watched like a hawk and she wouldn't be able to get anything done because everyone would be second-guessing her every decision. So no i do NOT think the United States as a country is ready for the first female president.

    1. The president is watched over as it is, regardless of race, religion, sex, ethnicity, etc. So that shouldn't matter. And if people talk about Monica as much as you say, then what about everything else we still talk about. I don't how that connects. Also, the uproar that you speak of, that was pretty much expected. And no matter whenever we do lift a woman as president, that uproar will happen regardless. And as I stated in my reply, the only problem I have is whether the other world powers are ready for our woman leader?

      Delete
    2. I disagree because the president is a public position. You are watched over no matter what sex you are. Monica Lewinsky reflected Bill Clinton's presidency. The actions of the female president will define her. If she is a strong leader then she is capable of the position, if she is not then that does not mean all women are incapable of the job. Every person is different and the success of women in various fields have shown that there are strong women who can be successful presidents. No matter what sex, race, or religion the president is there will always be people who support them and others who don't.

  4. I believe America is ready for the first woman president. It is just a change in gender that changes between presidents. Other countries already have female, like Costa Rica, Argentina, and Australia among many others. I also believe this country should be over the former chapters in your history where discrimination and stereotypes were taken into account greatly. I'd still like for this woman to be a strong individual in all aspects needed for the presidency.
But more so, I hear that the more important question is whether the world is ready for a woman representing our great country? Perhaps, but for the most part, probably not yet. But then again, her character can change everything. If a woman ever does become president soon, then we should back her in foreign policy and in every other thing she wants to cover or fix.

  5. I think the United is ready to have a woman as president. Is something we have never tried and would be a good idea to try. Too many mistakes with the presently passed presidents. Time for a change.

    1. So would you vote for a dog because its something we have never tried? Is not about them being female or male is about the issues they concentrate on, will they just try to mess everyone up? America is to scared for change.

    2. Even though our past president did made some awful mistakes, I still think this country would not be able to handle a female president. It might even go worse for all we know since it is rare to even see a female leader anywhere in this world and that's because of fear of what might happen.

      Delete
    3. I for one will vote for the dog, assuming that he/she fits the criteria for such, if it can pass legislature and work miracles within our government then you bet I'm voting for the dog! However, I do not believe America is "scared" to change. I believe there isn't a female candidate, as far as I know, that has deep pockets compared to their counter parts.

      Delete
    4. look everyone makes mistakes no matter their race or sex. so saying that just because a woman is in charge that things will automaticly be better for the country and that she won't make mistakes is wrong. WE SHOULD NOT JUDGE due to their race of sex ,but about what they actualy achieve during their time in office.

  6. America is not ready for a complete change. With that being said, I do not believe the United States is ready for the first female president. Like Hilary Clinton for example. She ran for office, and was able to have many supporters but not to the point where she won the presidency. The supporters she had was because she was a womanm, and it was something never really seen before. Americans are raised with traditions and tradition does not include a woman as head of the country. We believe other countries might look at the United States as weak having a woman in office. They will try to run her over.

    1. I agree with you I also dont think were ready for her.

    2. I disagree in the fact that the united states is not ready for a female president. However, I agree on the fact that America is not ready to change because the people are not used to the idea of having a woman represent them. Yes America is raised with traditions but that didn't stop them from electing the first African American president. So why would they have trouble electing a woman? Sexism will always exist just as racism will too. America is ready for a female leader.

      Delete
    3. I strongly agree with what you are saying. American tradition and culture simpliy is not custom to accept a female president. Plus, the way other nations view us as an individual nation would surely alter, especially in the nations where women have no leadership roles.

  7. I do not believe we are ready for a female president, although there have been some amazing women who do more than just support their husbands at times, not everyone thinks this way, there would be a lot of controversy among a lot of people, many wouldn't respect them just because of the simple fact that they are female. Sure people would vote for her but if some people were really conservative and powerful they will try to make sure they aren't successful. Another thing is that when someone from a different race or gender runs many will vote for them because of that not many take consideration the issues they are concentrating on, who's to say they won't ruin the government.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I believe America might just be ready for a female president. There have been women who have stepped up to the big leagues like Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin, even though they did not come out successful. Abigail Adams was perhaps the first pillar of female representation and power with her letters to John Adams and the quote "remember the ladies and be more generous and favorable to them..." The women's movements of the 1920's also proved the power of the female population in America. Eleanor Roosevelt ran the presidency after FDR fell ill to polio as a sign f the imminent power of the First Lady.
HOWEVER, I believe America WILL NOT allow a female president to be elected in quite the long time. The society and higher government of the country has been defined as a place for a male figure, a strong patriarch who will support and run the country with bare hands. To have a female president would be considered by most as an abrupt, maybe even unnecessary, change that would be better if avoided. I believe that America will let a lot of time go by before we even see a female president or vice president.

    2. I agree with Diego, America is still in the "its a man's world" mindset, and as a whole, the change will not be made. The preside has been defined as a man's role and too many Americans associate gender with the ability to lead a country.

  9. I honestly feel like America is ready to have It's first female president. If our president was a female it wouldn't make anything different. It's not about the gender of a person to become the president of the Us. It takes the strategy and effort to become one. I also believe that will never happen here but it will be nice to try hearing out a lady's point of view. Look at it this way, never did we think we will gave a black president but we do now. What makes it any different about the gender? As much as It's not a big deal to some of us, it is to others. Maybe I do or don't think Americans are ready to have a female president.

  10. I really believe we are not ready to have a female leader yet. If we get a female president we won't get much effort done or anything would change. Since many men are still towards sexist to women. But in jobs, Majority of females( no matter what race) take it to effort. But having a female leader won't make a difference. It's like trying to have a homosexual president, Hispanic president, American-European president, Native American president, American-Asian president, or a animal as a president. Since we have a black president. There hasn't been much change since he went into office.

  11. I believe the U.S. is ready for a female president. It does not matter what your sex, race, or religious beliefs are as long as you can run the country. It may take a while for the people to get used to this change, but as long as she enacts favorable policies and keeps the economy from declining, the country will be ready for the change. America has seen very powerful women who are capable of leading the country. Many of the fist ladies were powerful women that helped their husbands during their terms. The U.S. has also had powerful congresswomen and judges. These women have been successful in their positions just as men have. Other countries have also had women prime ministers. It took a while to get used to the first African American president, but we have learned from Obama's election that there will always be people who support it and people who don't.

  14. This is indeed a touchy topic but my answer will have to be no. America still need a lot of things to change before we can even think of having a female president. Having a female president would only cause chaos and hate in this nation that is especially filled with sexist people. Just look at the leaders around the world, you hardly see any of them being a female. Even in history, males have always been leaders while females helped them out. Maybe later in the future it can change but for now, we are not ready for that just yet.

    1. I agree with you. There are many sexist people and all it would bring is a lot of chaos. However, I don't agree with males have always been leaders because females have been leaders to. Susan B. Anthony is the mother of the 19th amendment (Women's Suffrage) as well as Harriet Tubman and many others.

There are many sexist people and we aren't used to it because we have always had male presidents in office. Yet, again we have a black president and some people aren't too happy about that. Now just imagine a female and what chaos it would bring. Maybe in a matter of a period of time the United States will be ready for it's first female president.

There is no difference in my opinion, the only difference is the gender.

  16. America was not ready to have Obama as president and there still some people against that fact. It made a good change, because that shows that different type of people can occupy his position. I think having a female president will be a good change for America. This change will open up everyone's eyes and let America comprehend a female can dominate U.S equally or better. Hillary helped Bill during his term through some tough situations. A female president would be great.

  17. I honestly don't know if America is or isn't ready to have a woman as president. I believe that there are women out there who are more qualified than others and they deserve to have a chance to represent the people, but there's also the issue of America being too scared for change. If a woman were to be elected, she would face a lot of discrimination and hatred because of her gender. She won't be able to do anything in her years as president because she would have sexist, closed minded people working next to her in office. I do think that it would be a great achievement if a woman were to get in office and change things for the better of the country. A woman as president is something that is not accepted now, but it might be later on who knows. America needs to become more open minded, but we all know there's a LONG ways to go before that happens.

  18. I believe that america is ready to have a female president. But is america ready? I dont think so. To many people are sexist and believe that a man is smarter and more capable of running the country. But I think that having a female president would actually help out the country. Many of the first ladies have done big changes around the world. FDR's wifey did all of his deeds. She promoted many programs that helped change the economy.

  19. Even though a female candidate may be well qualified to become president, America is not ready to have a female as president. Symbolism plays a huge role in who is leading our country. In some peoples' eyes, women are in fact weaker than men or wouldn't be able to keep things under control; even though these assumptions might not be all true, people are entitled to their opinions. These comparisons of women who were a first lady in the past shouldn't compared to what a female president would be capable of. As president, they would be entitled to follow the same agenda as a male would. The sex of the leader wouldn't really matter, it's just the fact of keeping the tradition and the symbolism going.

  20. I disagree on the part of a woman not being able to handle stress. That doesn't so much matter on gender, but just on the person. Any political position will have its stressful moments.

  21. I believe that America is ready to have the first female president. Many first ladies have helped the country in a variety of ways like Michelle Obama has with education and they also helped presidents make many decision. Hillary Clinton is a perfect example of what woman are able to do and achieve in politics.

  22. No, I don’t think this county is ready for a women president just yet. People are still sexist and can’t see that this country should be run by a person who has the higher quality not just because they are a men or a women. For example Hillary Clinton she advised president Clinton ,advocated Clintons health care reform and was elected in the U.S. Senate.

  23. In a way I want to believe that america is ready for the first female president because there is not much difference in knowledge even at that a woman can maybe be just a little smarter at times(and I do say "maybe smarter"). But in a truthful opinion america could be ready but what about the rest of the world. I think it would affect on things outside of just the U.S. For example in the year 2011 the top fice countries of U.S petroleum imports were Canada, Saudi Arabi, Venezuela, and Nigeria. We use all type of pertorlium in everyday life here in america but what if a woman does become president? Some counties don't agree in giving a woman a great amount of power and would think less of them compared to as if a male president was standing like now.

  24. In my perspective i truly believe we are ready for a female president. I mean there is always going to be people that are sexist no matter what. Just like when the first black President Obama was elected. Many people were mad were racist and still are and others were in complete comfort. It would be the same with a female president. I believe that gender had nothing to do with being president of the united states. As long as they are highly qualified to be president and know what they are doing everything will still get done in office.

  27. I believe that America is ready for their 1st female president. There have been multiple of women that have set great examples showing the country that women are capable of running this country. Even before, some women proved that they could help manage their husband's presidency without no need of them. To name a few, some of these women were Hillary Clinton, Rosalynn Carter, Betty Ford, and Eleanor Roosevelt. Issues that were advocated by them were Equal Rights, Civil Rights, Mental Health, and Health Care. 28. I believe that America is ready to have its first female president. Many would counteract with the argument of women being to emotional. They say that their emotions will blind and alter important decisions for the sake of the nation. However, the clouding of judgments by emotion can occur from anyone-not just women. Also, there will always be discrimination as long as there are differences, whether it be race, gender, age, etc. There is now way a world could exist without some thought of inequality. No one likes it, but it's reality. In addition, we've had countless first ladies who have been helpful in aiding the country (as mentioned in our textbook and by some of the other classmates). Eleanor Roosevelt fought for New Deal proposals, civil rights, and the rights of women. Hillary Clinton was involved with Health Care Reform even ran for president in 2008. Confirmation bias also has a big part in this topic. Many of those who are against having a woman as president will tend to look for the bad things that revolve around a woman, but they tend to overlook all the good things that women have done.

  30. I believe that the United States is ready for a female president. However, sexism will still be present in the nation. It's something that can't be avoided and yes it will be a controversial issue. I still think that women have the same capacity as men do. Gender shouldn't matter but people still make a big deal out of it. Women have proven to be exemplary leaders such as the first ladies which include Edith Galt Wilson when she ran government when her husband Woodrow suffered from a stroke. Eleanor Roosevelt also mentioned by other classmates wrote a newspaper column and traveled to advocate New Deal Policies. And of course Hilary Clinton has proven to thrive among the nation by helping her husband, Bill Clinton, when he was in presidency to becoming secretary of state. Women have shown to be able to handle big leadership roles efficiently.

  31. As a nation, I believe that we are ready for a president who is capable and qualifies, if that happens to be a woman, then so be it. I, for one, am against voting for or against someone because of their race, gender, ethnicity or creed. Women all throughout history have proven to be capable of handling the position. For example, Condoleezza Rice is just one example of a woman that is suitable for the presidency, along with Hilary Clinton and the current first lady herself, Mrs. Obama. However, America as a whole is still feeble minded and cannot overlook the gender difference.

    1. I agree because mostly male are going to be the issue since we have the belief that men are above women and it should stay like that. And i do say that not all males but there is always that one person that believes this. throughout our short american history males have been president, some were idiots, but others were true leaders with a purpose, yet we sometimes forget that behind every great person there had to be a great women to lead that man to be what he is now. And it is true that if a women does becomes the president than the enemies of America could see us as insane and weak, but we shouldn't dwell on the negative but on the possibilities a female can bring to the nation and the world.

  32. I believe that America is ready for a female president, because women have increased their ability to be involved in politics and in the government. Women have come a far distance since the women suffrage and the challenges of feminism, which is still present in our nation even though we can't clearly see it. The only issue that a female candidate for the presidency has to face is the people of america that do not like change especially if the change is a women. Women in my point of view have the ability to deal with stress, the public, and to be persuasive. So will Hilary Clinton be the first female president? She might be because she has been in the medias glance for some time now. She has political experience and has dealt with many hard-head politicians and people. Today, we see women as leaders in the military, companies, and also in the congress and government, so its wont be a surprise if this era was called the "woman's era".

  33. I personally do believe that the United States is ready for a female president. However, I have the fear of the lack of respect that she may obtain from a majority of the country. Up until now, women have proven themselves more and more qualified for a seat in presidency. To be the president it should not matter on race, religion, etc. but on how one aims to better the country and do what’s right for the country as a whole. The issues that a woman is supporting may be no different from a male’s. Roles in congress and other high positions have already been taken, and have been well represented by women already. Gender has nothing to do with representing a country and aiming to do what’s best. Men and women could be powerful and knowledgeable just the same, being able to run this country. But like I said, there is that possibility of not respecting a woman as the president of this country. Such high position has never been taken yet by a female, so the traditional mind set this nation has as a majority is that women are subordinate to men in the race for presidency. If a female president was ever to be elected, it would take some serious adjusting and getting used to. To the question if we are ready for a female president, yes we are ready. If we’re ready for such drastic change from our history in fully respecting a women as president, as an entire nation, possibly not.

  34. I believe that America is ready for a female president. The gender of a person shouldn't matter when electing a leader for the country. Women have the same qualities as men when it comes to politics. There are many other countries with female leaders like, Costa Rica, Argentina, Australia and many others. To name a couple of women that have potential to be president are Hillary Clinton, Eleanor Roosevelt or Michelle Obama. However I don't the res of the country is ready to vote for a female leader. Most of America is very conservative and wouldn't vote. Another factor would be that they would think that the country would be vulnerable to foreign attacks.

  35. I do believe the country is ready for a female president. I don't think the gender should matter, but the capability that an individual has. Women throughout history have shown good leadership and capability, such as Eleanor Roosevelt when she basically became the one campaigning for his husband, Franklin D. Roosevelt, after his polio.
However, I also believe that America wouldn't allow and accept a female president because of "tradition" and the ideas that a president is always male. I think there would be alot of hesitant people that wouldn't agree. They would cause alot of hardship on the president. I just think that is because there hasn't been an example of a women with such a high power as a president. But then America wasnt ready for the 1st African American president. It opened doors to new possibilities.

  36. I disagree with your reason of why we are not ready for a femal president. Women have the capability of becoming a leader and maybe becoming better than a male. It's the public that won't be able to handle a female president.

  37. I believe woman have the capability of becoming a president and a leader, but I do not think America is ready for it. Still to this day there is prejudice and stereotypes that has lasted for years. There are people who strongly dislike Barack Obama just because he's of African American decent and the same could happen for a female of if we had an Asian or Hispanic president. People judge and are stubborn enough to not listen and believe that power would be in the wrong hands. I believe woman have proved they can behold such power, however not everyone would see that. And I agree with the others that other countries would find us less intimidating because of a woman in charge.

  38. In my opinion, I feel that America is not ready for the 1st female president. The reason for this is simple, change. People are simply not ready to call a woman the command-in- chief. If America was ready for a female president then politicians like Hilary Clinton would have been prime candidates for office. However, despite all womens' contributions we as Americans have not developed a mind set for this kind of reality. If America were to vote a female candidate in to office any time soon I would have to say that it would be because we elected a female president just to do it.

    2. Osvaldo I agree with you because the American people cannot adapt to change so easily which makes the election of a female president less likely to come into fruition within the next few years.

  39. Though America has become more open to women perspective there's still that feeling of doubt that feels Americans heart. I think a woman can be president because the idea of Barack Obama being the first black president wasn't even fathomed till modern day so to see the transition of america easily proves that it's possible and most likely will happen.

  40. I don't really know. The sex shouldn't matter but of course Americans are too ignorant to focus on what really matters, attaining a leader who can steer the country toward success. All that gets taken into account is the appearance of the person who leads us and that is why so little progress gets made. As for America not being seen as intimidating? Yeah, the president has nothing to do with that either. The whole country is considered when calculating whether or not we can be a threat. Pearl Harbor for example, was it not a man who was in office as president during that time? Did it stop the attack on our nation because he was a man? Nope. So that is a stupid way of reasoning it. What the country needs is a leader who is smart and tactful. One that makes the right choices most of the time if not all, and of course that is hard to find. Take Queen Elizabeth for example. She achieved so much when she took the thrown and even before when she had to prove herself, even her own people doubted her because she was a woman. However, that ended up not mattering at all. The Spanish Armada was defeated under her reign and expansion overseas was also very prominent while she was queen. There's a reason why that period was called the Golden Age and its because of her. If people would stop worrying about the appearance of a leader maybe we might actually find a good one more often.

Im sure great success would come from a women being president but to many issues would be started and nothig would get done the way things are now. 42. I would think it would all depend on the female candidate in regards towards her skills as a Politician. If she can handle her self as Queen Victor has then she, without a doubt, will be adored by Americans. However, if she fails America's test of judgement then her approval rating will go down tremendously. I don't think it's a test of Judgement a female candidate must pass, in a broader scope, but a test by the American people. A test that can rather A) give her the title of "Mother" of the American people or B)be relentlessly attacked by sexist. I think, as a whole, America has moved passed the judgment monocle and now uses a more logical mind and eye.

    1. I agree with Lionel, if we do by some chance get a woman to become president, it will likely be a test run for future women candidates. If she fails, there will most likely not be another woman president for a very long time. However if she succeeds, it is even more likely she will be reelected and the chances of another woman as commander in chief become greater.

  43. I believe America is ready for a female president. The stereotypical image of women is to be vulnerable, weak, and emotional. However, women have grown so much throughout the years. Women have fought for womens' rights, civil rights, many have gained an education, and many have become strong leaders. So I believe if a women is well qualified and a strong candidate she should be supported to become president. Someone's gender, race, or ethnicity differences should not restrain them from obtaining presidency if they are leaders that can possibly bring more prosperity and success to the country. Women such as Hillary Clinton are huge examples of great leadership. Hillary played a big role during Clinton's presidency , and proposed and heavily advocated the idea of universal healthcare. Women like Hillary have proved that women can provide the change this country needs.

    1. I agree with you. The idea that women would not make good leaders because they are irrational and emotional belongs in the past and not even then since some of the world's best leaders have been females. If a female candidate is qualified then she should become president.

  44. I believe that woman do have the ability to be leaders of the United States because for one woman have progressed plenty over the history of the United States. Women were first considered as property as if they were slaves. They basically were slaves because they had no word or say in anything that happened back then. Then with woman’s suffrage and World War II it improved their status and proved that they could do things just as men could. So I believe that if woman could prove society once they could do the same as men then why can’t they be a leader of a county. However I don’t think society isn’t ready for this change at the time. We live in a society where people don’t adjust to change very easily therefore I think that it could wait for a few decades for the change see how society changes and maybe progress.

    1. I agree with you Martin, even though in my post, i stated that we are ready for a female president, however you prove a pretty valid point. Even though gender has nothing to do with a person's ability to make the correct decisions as president, i do not believe that most people understand that and are not ready to accept a woman as the present of the United State, seeing that, like you stated, we have just had our first African American president.

  46. I strongly believe that America is ready to see a woman president. If an individual is competent in their field and demostrates the capacity to lead the country as a chief in command then why not? Gender should not be a prerequisite to be able to run and hold presidential office. Women have always played a key role in policy shaping. Many abolutionist movements were started by women that deemed the act of slabery as salvage. Throughout history, first ladies have also guided policy with their husbands. Elenor became FDR's eyes and ears as his polio crippled him. Hillary Clinton was a key person in drafting Clinton's healthcare bill. Women already do the work might as well hold the tittle.

  48. In my opinion I think the US is not yet prepared to have a woman as president. Like our many conversations and discussions in class, we can barely handle an African American MALE president, so how would we be able to handle a woman. I believe the country as a whole is not yet in the mindset that women are in fact equal to men, instead we just like to have the women taking control but from the sidelines just like Michelle Obama is doing and how Hillary Clinton did at one point. Possibly in the next couple of years the country will open its eyes and realize that our government has been run by the many women in the background.

  49. The United States is not yet ready to handle a Female president. The American people continue to display their lack of understanding on humanity and morality. History has seen its share of great female figures, Joan of arc, Ada Lovelace, and Rosa Parks. All these women showed strength and integrity. America is very quick to judge as we see with our current president. This will influence the chances of another minority of becoming president and might as very well influence the chances of a female of becoming president. However it is inevitable that a woman will one day become president.

  50. All humans can cope with stress. Especially women as they are biologically evolved to cope with stress. That is survival. Why do you think they endure child birth and are mothers? And Hillary Clinton bailed on the Obama administration because she did not want to be on the sinking ship. It was political move, Mr.Pyle has mentioned this before in class (well 5th period anyways). She wanted to save her own image so that she may one day run for other offices.

  51. I disagree about the part of women not being able to handle stress. Women if anything can take on alot at one time even the most stressful situations.Look at all the things your mom does throughout the day and its alot of work which she manages good. As a politician or president the job is always stressful, thatss why all presidents always look older than when there term is up rather than begining their term.

  52. In my opinion, we are not ready nor will we ever be ready to take on a woman as president of the united states let alone our commander in chief of the military. Without this women lack the aggressive nature required to get the job done, especially when it comes to military affairs.

We need to shake some things up and give things new chances, because men have been running this country for along time and chaos is always happening. The economy is messed up, war is always starting, and things seem to always go wrong. Maybe we should give women a chance at being president. America is our home and in any house hold the woman basically ccontrol everything that goes on. Men are quick to do things without thinking, and men have there pride that we like to protect. while, women are the opposite they think about the consequences. America just needs to look at the fact and stop being sexist.

  54. In my opinion Americans aren't ready for a woman president. Americans aren't too optimistic about certain changes. Many people say that this is a "man's world," those people are speaking the truth. If this wasn't a man's world, then there would have been a need for a women's civil rights movement. Throughout history there haven't been many women that held high positions in the government. However I am not saying that America will never be ready but when the time comes this candidate better be well qualified to run this great nation.

  55. I do believe that America is ready to appoint a woman as president. Looking back at history, women have not been treated equally compared to men. However, women such as Condoleezza Rice, Hilary Clintonand Sarah Palin prove that women have made an important impact in American politics. Condoleezza Rice was the Secretary of State during George W. Bush's administration. Hilary Clinton was the first lady during Bill Clinton's presidency, Secretary of State during Barack Obama's administration, and Senator of New York from 2001 to 2009. Sarah Palin ran for vice president along side John Mccain during the 2008 presidential election, and senator of Alaska from 2006 to 2009. women have proven to be a great asset to politics.

  56. I do believe America is ready for a woman president and as soon as the next election. I predict that Hilary Clinton will be the next U.S. president. If you check history first black people got their rights and all of a sudden shortly after that women got theirs. America went through a lot change when Obama was elected president, so I think it wouldn't be that hard for a woman to be elected also. I chose Hilary because a lot of Americans out there love Bill. If you check the statistics the economy under Bill Clinton was prosperous. The American people has jobs and the economy was stable. People will think that she will be as successful in helping the economy as he was.

  57. I believe a women is capable of being president but in society I doubt that the country as a whole would elect a women as president. Like the way to citizenship and the ability to vote with African Americans being granted citizenship and the right to vote upset women and women leaders fought and fought til women gained rights in today's society I doubt that a women will become president but I do think one day America will have a women president. The female candidate will have to very strong because we saw what the media did to Sarah Palin during the McCain campaign a women without a track record such as Hillary Clinton and an almost flawless record will still have trouble running much less elected as president. America will have a women president but in times like these I believe America is still not ready for a female president.

  58. I believe that the United States is ready to have a woman as President. But that isn't why there hasn't been a female president. It all depends on if a female runs during the election because it is rare to have a woman run for president which in a way shows that they are not even confident in themselves. Therefore, the real reason for there not have been a female president yet is because not many have been willing to step up to the plate. You can argue that those who sexist have an affect but they are not the majority and its not like most of the U.S. is sexist.

  61. I believe America has been ready for the 1st woman President for a while now. The reason why I believe there hasn’t been a woman President so far is because traditionally men have always had the role of leading our nation. Our founding fathers probably never thought of having a woman as a President in our current generation. The reason I say that is because back then during their time, woman weren’t equal to men. They could’ve been equal in other ways, but when it came to politics and “manly” things the men were always in charge. Women typically were seen as “Housewives” or the ones who kept the house clean and took care of the children. If you look down the history of our nation it took a long time before woman even had the right to vote, known as suffrage. Maybe we as individuals see woman as equal to men, but history wise, woman really haven’t had the same privileges as men since the dawn of time. Woman still aren’t equal to men, till this day! The reason why I say that is look at the yearly salary a woman gets compared to a man. Both could have a high degree in their area, and possibly have the same job, but the man will have roughly a $20,000-30,000 yearly difference. (Pyle taught me this in Economics last semester) I believe that when this country has a female President the people as a nation will know what they wanted. Sexism is a strong thing in this country, and always will be.

  62. In all honesty it doesn't matter who is president, the priority is to run the country with whatever power the people have given. This country is still racist, sexist and closed off in their wonderland to see the better for this country as a whole. For example, Hillary Clinton had debated for the healthcare as a debate for her presidential campaign. Seemed like a good idea. However, it was struck down and criticized by Republicans. I wonder what recently passed? Oh yeah, healthcare reform. This country is not ready for a female president because overall there is still childlike behavior in the majority group that run the country.

  63. John, in the first place stress is a thing everybody faces. Just look at Obama when he started his presidential campaign. The stress is killing him, before he leaves office I wouldn't be amazed if his whole head is white. Woman can deal with stressful situations. Actually, I believe they can cope with more things than men to tell you the truth. Child birth is one example. What happened to Hilary and her issues in the middle east, shouldn't have had an effect but that's no issue regarding her status being Secretary of State. Everybody that works for the government knows their role and the "stressful" situations that they must deal on a daily basis. John stop being sexist.
